Hayley Williams of Paramore demands to change the Mississippi flag

The vocalist of Paramore, Hayley williams She has been a fairly active activist during the Black Lives Matter movement, so much so, that through her social networks she has been fighting for the flag of her home state, Mississippi to be replaced.

The Mississippi flag is the only one in the entire country that still retains the symbols of the confederation, historically related to the American slave movement after the Civil War.

For this reason, it is demanding that the House of Representatives change the flag for one that reflects all the inhabitants of the state.

This afternoon (June 28), local Mississippi lawmakers voted and approved the state flag change. Now, the measure will go to the Senate for final approval.

Adopted in 1894, almost 30 years after the end of the Civil War, the flag features the Confederate symbol: 13 white stars on a blue X with a red background.
