Swedish metal innovators IMMINENCE have officially entered a new chapter in their career with the announcement of their signing to Sumerian Records and the release of their latest single, “The Sword That Never Bends.” The track arrives following the international breakthrough of the band's acclaimed album The Black and signals the beginning of a new creative phase.
Over the last several years, IMMINENCE have established themselves as one of the most distinctive acts in modern metal thanks to their fusion of crushing heaviness, cinematic atmospheres, and the signature violin work of vocalist Eddie Berg. Those elements remain central to the band's sound on the new single while pushing into new territory sonically.
Ash Avildsen, founder and CEO of Sumerian Records, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership. “IMMINENCE is a band that has such presence, depth and world building to their music that I was instantly captivated when I first heard them. They are prolific story tellers of emotions. I have been pursuing them for years and am deeply honored they have chosen Sumerian for this next era of their career.”
Musically, “The Sword That Never Bends” introduces a sharper industrial edge to the band's sound. The track combines heavy guitars, powerful drumming, atmospheric textures, Berg's dynamic vocal performance, and the violin melodies that have become a defining part of IMMINENCE's identity.
Discussing the song, the band explained: “We all knew from the start — this was a single. Everyone who heard it felt the same. ‘The Sword That Never Bends’ came alive in a way that immediately defined both the sound and the themes of where IMMINENCE is headed next. It introduces a new dimension to our identity and carries a relentless energy that pulls you out from the shadows of The Black.”
The band also described the songwriting process as unusually natural. “The writing process can best be summed up in one word: flow. Everything began in our home studio, where each piece fell into place almost effortlessly. It felt unmistakably like IMMINENCE, yet shaped into something new — exactly the kind of song we've been striving to create for years.”
According to the group, the song remained largely unchanged from its earliest version. Producer Drew Fulk played a role in refining the track while preserving its original vision. “When we shared it, he immediately recognized its potential as a single. It was about refining what was already there, not reinventing it.”
The release is accompanied by a new music video that serves as the first chapter of a broader visual narrative developed with longtime collaborator Pavel Trebukhin and writer Juan Zuleta. The project expands the band's artistic universe into a more cinematic and story-driven direction.
The partnership with Sumerian Records arrives at a pivotal moment for IMMINENCE, whose profile has grown significantly following the success of The Black. With “The Sword That Never Bends,” the band establishes the foundation for what appears to be its most ambitious era yet.
