All Within My Hands (AWMH), the nonprofit organization founded by the members and management of METALLICA, has announced the eighth year of its Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) with its largest investment to date: more than $3.3 million.
As part of the new funding cycle, 18 U.S. schools will join the program in fall 2026. Fifteen institutions will receive $75,000 grants to strengthen their career and technical education programs, while three additional schools will receive $50,000 grants dedicated to purchasing specialized equipment.
The foundation also confirmed the initiative's first international expansion through a $250,000 (£186,000) grant that will establish the Metallica Scholars Initiative in the United Kingdom in partnership with Capital City College Group (CCC).
Frontman James Hetfield reflected on how the program has grown since its launch.
"This thing started as a dream. Now our program is changing lives. To expand our impact on a global scale and support even more students is so rewarding. We're so proud of all the Metallica Scholars who have come through it and all the ones who will participate in it. It's humbling to know we've been part of the journey of thousands of trade professionals doing good, hard work in the world."
Since launching in 2019, the initiative has worked alongside the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to support workforce education and career training.
Originally focused on traditional skilled trades such as welding, plumbing and electrical work, the program has expanded to include nursing and healthcare, optical systems technology, automotive repair, maritime manufacturing, firefighting and emergency medical services (EMT), pipefitting and agricultural pathways, among other career fields.
Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard, president and CEO of the AACC, said the continued growth of the initiative reflects the strength of the partnership.
"The continued growth of the Metallica Scholars Initiative is a powerful testament to what's possible when visionary philanthropy and community colleges come together around a shared mission. Through this partnership, more than 13,000 community college students have already been supported, gaining the skills needed for high-demand careers that provide family-sustaining wages."
According to the AACC, the initiative has already supported more than 13,000 students across the United States, helping expand access to workforce training and strengthening the pipeline for skilled professionals.
