Fences have released “Drugs Like You”, their new single featuring Marilyn Manson. The track appears on their upcoming album Now She’s Long Gone Sun Squint and stands as one of the project’s most introspective moments.
Built around a restrained acoustic structure, the song moves away from heavier approaches to focus on direct emotional storytelling. Led by Christopher Mansfield’s vocal performance, it explores themes of addiction, faith, family and shame, creating an atmosphere shaped by repetition and introspection.
Marilyn Manson enters in the second verse, adding contrast with lines rooted in personal memory: “Mama, why'd you take me right to the store / To buy me an ice cream when we were poor?”. His contribution complements the track without shifting its central narrative focus.
Sonically, “Drugs Like You” expands through gospel-leaning choir arrangements, enhancing its emotional weight while maintaining a minimalistic core. The production remains organic, allowing tension to build through space and dynamics.
The band shared a conceptual statement alongside the release: “Addiction moves in circles. The desert is a place for rumination. The only answer is that it is all the same. You must still scream ‘why’ even if no one answers”.
Meanwhile, Marilyn Manson remains on a short break before resuming his spring tour on May 8, ahead of a summer run with Rob Zombie.
