In a bold act of defiance that is sure to spark controversy, Death Metal titans Deicide have released their provocative new single, called 'Sever The Tongue', with an extra layer of blasphemy around today's celebrations, Ash Wednesday. This amplifies the band's notorious reputation for defying religious convention, reinforcing their position at the forefront of the genre.
You can watch the official video for the new single, below. The clip is the work of David Brodsky.
This release not only serves as a harbinger of the darkly anticipated album Banished By Sin, scheduled for release on April 26 via Reigning Phoenix Music, but also marks opening pre-orders for what promises to be a monumental addition to the Death Metal canon. “I've been sitting in a dark corner for several years,” Benton says. “Some things have come into my life that have shaken me and changed me. I was inspired when writing this new album; It was like flipping a switch. I no longer have the annoyance of other people's hang-ups interfering with what I have and want to do. I stopped pursuing the happiness of others a long time ago. The guy who started this shit is back! And it's good to be back!”
“Musically, we're going back to the '90s style,” Benton says. “There is also modern stuff there. It's Deicide as it should be. My catchy songs are there, Steve's progressive style songs are there and we have Kevin's theme style songs. Having Taylor in the band has impacted Deicide. He is a fantastic composer and performer. He can do anything. The four of us contributed three songs each. I'm back with the high-pitched screams and capes. It's an album in which I totally let myself go. I've been told it's one of my best vocal performances. I'm like Rumpelstiltskin: I'm here to turn your hay into gold. “Everyone will be pleasantly surprised.”
