Coal Chamber have announced the cancellation of their appearance at the 2026 edition of Louder Than Life to allow drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox to undergo surgery related to the cancer treatment he has been facing.
The news was confirmed by the musician himself through a statement shared on social media, where he explained that he recently received positive medical results that will allow him to move forward with what he hopes will be the final surgery in this process.
After months of scans, tests, and appointments, I'm beyond grateful to say that I passed all of my recent tests and finally got the green light from my doctors for what we hope will be my final cancer surgery. Because of that, COAL CHAMBER will be postponing our performance at Louder Than Life. While I'm bummed to miss it, this is the news my family and I have been fighting for, and I couldn't be more excited to take this next step.”
The drummer also took the opportunity to thank fans for the support he has received throughout the last year, a period marked by intensive treatments and a lengthy recovery.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this long cancer journey. Your love, encouragement, and positive energy have meant the world to me.
My focus now is on surgery, recovery, and getting back on stage with my COAL CHAMBER family as soon as possible. The future is looking bright, and I can't wait to see you all again soon! Fuck Cancer!”
The cancellation comes only months after Coal Chamber returned to the stage at Sick New World in Las Vegas, a performance that marked the band's first live appearance since Cox completed one of the most significant stages of his treatment.
In late April, the drummer publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage-three cancer on April 1, 2025. At the time, he described the experience as a “dark” and “scary” process, explaining that he endured nearly a year of intensive treatment that included radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery.
According to Cox, doctors eventually declared him cancer-free after completing that phase of treatment. However, the upcoming surgery remains part of the medical procedures required to complete his recovery process.
At the time of writing, the band has not announced a replacement date for its planned Louder Than Life appearance, though Cox made it clear that his goal is to return to the stage as soon as his health allows.
