Tony Iommi will release From The Dark through BMG on October 23, 2026, marking his first solo album since Fused arrived in 2005. The Black Sabbath guitarist introduced the record with “World Alone,” a track driven by down-tuned riffs, sharp solos and Norwegian singer Jørn Lande’s imposing voice.
The song premiered during a global streaming event held in Birmingham, near the canal bridge dedicated to Black Sabbath on Broad Street. Directed by Ryan Mackfall, its video follows The Believer, a character forced to fight for survival inside a video game set in a dystopian, retrofuturistic world. That struggle extends the song’s themes of isolation and salvation into a hostile visual environment.
Iommi’s return does not rely on his reputation alone. “World Alone” retains the weight and low tuning that made his guitar one of heavy metal’s foundations, but it does not attempt to recreate Black Sabbath. The production is cleaner and more contemporary, leaving room for Lande’s dramatic range and a rhythm section that drives the track without burying its central riff.
From The Dark features Lande on every song, with the vocalist also sharing songwriting credits throughout the album. The lineup is completed by Becky Baldwin, currently a touring bassist for Mercyful Fate, and drummer Karl Brazil. Iommi co-produced the record with longtime collaborator Mike Exeter, who also contributed to its writing, recording and engineering.
“It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything—it’s a great album, it rocks,” Iommi said.
The standard edition will feature eight tracks. A deluxe CD adds the instrumentals “Scent Of Dark” and “Deified,” both originally released as pieces connected to fragrances developed by Iommi and Italian perfume house Xerjoff.
BMG will issue the album digitally, on standard CD, as a deluxe 32-page CD media book with two additional tracks and in an Amazon-exclusive edition. Four double-vinyl variants cut at 45 rpm will also be available, housed in a die-cut gatefold sleeve based on Iommi’s signature cross.
Before the album arrives, BMG will release a limited seven-inch edition of “World Alone” on September 4. It will contain an instrumental version on the B-side and come in a foil-detailed sleeve. The track is also being added to the Gibson app as an interactive guitar lesson.
From The Dark arrives a little more than a year after Back To The Beginning, the concert held at Villa Park on July 5, 2025. That event brought Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward together onstage for the final time. Osbourne died 17 days later.
