The Smashing Pumpkins have officially announced the “The Rats in a Cage” tour, an extensive North American run scheduled for fall 2026 celebrating the 30th anniversary of their landmark album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
The tour was revealed during the special livestream event “A Funeral for Zero”, broadcast from the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The event included a symbolic funeral for Billy Corgan’s “Zero” persona followed by a live performance where the band played “Here Is No Why” for the first time since 1997.
According to Billy Corgan, the concept behind the tour had been discussed internally for more than a decade. The project ultimately came together around a very specific idea: building a live experience completely centered on the conceptual and emotional universe of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
The show will be divided into two distinct sections. The first portion of each night will focus exclusively on Mellon Collie material presented in what the band describes as a highly theatrical and conceptual setting. Afterwards, the band will perform a second set spanning nearly their entire catalog, from 1991’s Gish through 2024’s Aghori Mhori Mei.
Originally released in 1995, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness remains one of the defining albums of 1990s alternative rock. The double album featured songs including “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” and “Zero,” firmly establishing Smashing Pumpkins as one of the most influential bands of the decade.
The tour officially begins September 30 in Columbus, Ohio and will travel across multiple cities in the United States and Canada before concluding November 12 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Afterwards, the band will appear at the Darker Waves festival on November 14 in Huntington Beach, California.
Tickets for all dates officially go on sale May 21 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
