One of the most important figures in the current progressive movement worldwide, Steven Wilson announced the release of his new studio album which will be called ‘The Overview’ and will be available on March 14 via Fiction Records.
Wilson's new work, the eighth on his personal list, will only have two songs, 'Objects Outlive Us' and the eponymous 'The Overview', but even so, it will last more than 40 minutes.
“It’s a 42-minute journey based on the well-known ‘overview effect’, whereby astronauts viewing Earth from space experience a totally transformative cognitive shift, most often with an overwhelming appreciation and perception of beauty and a heightened sense of connection to other people and to Earth as a whole. However, not all experiences are positive; some see Earth for what it really is, insignificant and lost in the vastness of space, and the human race as a species in constant suffering. Reflecting this, the album features images and stories of life on Earth, both good and bad,” explains Wilson.
Ahead of the album’s release date, The Overview will have its exclusive world premiere at London’s BFI IMAX cinema – the UK’s largest screen – on Tuesday 25 February. The music will play in immersive audio accompanied by a specially commissioned film by Miles Skarin featuring a series of ever-evolving, visually stunning animated sequences documenting the vastness of space and the almost imperceptibly small part of it that the human race occupies.
