Soulfly have released the official video for “Favela/Dystopia”, one of the standout tracks from their latest album Chama. The song highlights the groove-heavy and aggressive direction led by Max Cavalera, combining thrash elements with socially driven themes.
The track features Zyon Cavalera on drums, bringing a modern intensity that reinforces the band’s tribal-influenced sound. His performance adds a contemporary edge while maintaining the core identity of Soulfly’s rhythmic approach.
Visually, the video was created by Matt Creeptoon, delivering a striking animated interpretation that blends surreal and unsettling imagery. The piece presents a raw depiction of life in Brazilian favelas, addressing issues such as violence, inequality and daily survival.
Max Cavalera described the concept by saying it feels like The Nightmare Before Christmas meets City of God, emphasizing that the video aims to portray the struggles of people living in these environments while showcasing the thrash-oriented side of the album Chama.
Musically, “Favela/Dystopia” retains the defining elements of Soulfly’s sound: heavy riffs, percussive drive and a focus on intensity. At the same time, the band incorporates more dynamic space, aligning with modern metal production without abandoning its roots.
Chama represents a continued evolution for the band, reinforcing the connection between sound and message. Across the album, there is a clear intention to address social realities through a direct and unfiltered lens.
