Manny Martinez, the original drummer of the iconic punk band The Misfits, has died at the age of 69. No details were given about the reasons for his death.
The news was confirmed by his friend, Zach Rector through social networks who wrote: “I will miss you, brother Manny Martínez. A true living legend, student of Buddy Rich. More than a musician, he was an artist and carpenter. He was my friend. Rest easy, Manny.”
Short time, but noticeable.
Manny Martinez spent a short time within the ranks of The Misfits, but he managed to do significant things for the band's beginnings. Martinez was introduced to Jerry Only by Glenn Danzig and signed on to feature on the first single, 'Cough/Cool' and the original version of 'She'.
Martinez was fired for his “lack of commitment to The Misfits” in late 1977 after playing a handful of shows with the band and was replaced by Jim Catanio.
