Born Paul Caiafa, Wolfgang von Frankenstein joined Misfits in 1980 when he was 16 years old. His guitar work became part of the band’s classic period and appeared on essential horror-punk records including Walk Among Us and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood.
His muscular stage presence, corpse-like makeup and custom Annihilator guitar became defining elements of the Misfits image. Following the band’s original breakup in 1983, Doyle continued working with his brother Jerry Only and later participated in the reactivated version of Misfits during the Nineties.
Since 2016, he has also performed at Original Misfits reunion concerts alongside Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only. His work outside Misfits, however, has developed into a separate musical identity.
Doyle released Abominator, the debut album from his self-titled project, in 2013. Its follow-up, Doyle II: As We Die, arrived in 2017 and pushed the guitarist toward a heavier sound while retaining his punk foundations and horror-driven aesthetic.
Although the Mexican run has been described as a solo tour, Wolfgang von Frankenstein will perform with his band Doyle. The lineup listed on the group’s official website features Alex “Wolfman” Story on vocals, Luke Wright on drums and Brandon Strate on bass.
Story, also known as the vocalist of Cancerslug, has been Doyle’s principal creative collaborator since Abominator. His abrasive vocal delivery complements Wolfgang von Frankenstein’s down-tuned riffs and gives the project much of its aggressive character.
The Mexican concerts will present Doyle as a separate act from Misfits, with a set built around the band’s own combination of horror punk, hardcore and heavy metal. Additional ticketing and schedule information is expected through the promoter and Doyle’s official channels.
