Mötley Crüe are returning to the starting point of their discography with a special 45th-anniversary edition of Too Fast For Love. The new collection arrives October 30 through BMG, bringing together both historic versions of the album, 1982 live recordings, the band’s earliest studio sessions and an extensive selection of reproductions and archival material.
The reissue revisits an album whose story began before Mötley Crüe had the backing of a major record company. Too Fast For Love was originally released on November 10, 1981 through Leathür Records, the band’s own label, with an initial pressing of only 900 copies. That edition contained 10 songs and featured a different mix and running order from the version that would later receive international distribution.
The band’s growing profile in the Los Angeles club circuit quickly attracted Elektra Records, which signed Mötley Crüe less than six months later. A new version of Too Fast For Love followed in 1982, remixed and remastered with nine songs and “Stick To Your Guns” removed. By then, “Live Wire” had become one of the first cornerstones of the band’s catalog, aided by a video that found an audience during MTV’s formative years.
That combination of hard rock, a clear punk influence and a visual identity built around glam helped separate Mötley Crüe from the Hollywood scene that would expand dramatically throughout the rest of the decade. Too Fast For Love eventually earned Platinum certification in the United States and Gold status in Canada, while serving as the first chapter of a discography that would produce Shout At The Devil only two years later.
The anniversary edition is designed to document that transition. At its center is the original 1981 Leathür Records version, an edition that has become one of the most sought-after pieces in the Mötley Crüe catalog, with original copies regularly commanding thousands of dollars on the collectors’ market. It sits alongside the 1982 Elektra version, allowing both incarnations of the debut to be heard within the same collection.

Those shows are particularly significant because they document Mötley Crüe in the period immediately preceding Shout At The Devil: alongside material from the debut, the set already included “Looks That Kill,” “Red Hot” and “Shout At The Devil,” all of which would appear on the second album the following year.
