LINKIN PARK will bring “Unshatter” to theaters on September 30, 2026. Directed by Joe Hahn, the documentary chronicles the band’s attempt to find a way forward following the death of Chester Bennington and the process that eventually led to their return with Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain.
The documentary begins during the years after Bennington’s death in July 2017. With no defined project and no certainty that LINKIN PARK would continue, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave “Phoenix” Farrell and Joe Hahn gradually began working together again.
“Unshatter” follows that process from private studio sessions held in 2022, before the band had publicly announced a comeback. The participation of Armstrong, known as the vocalist of Dead Sara, and Brittain, a songwriter, producer and drummer who had worked with artists including G Flip, Illenium and One Ok Rock, introduced a new creative dynamic that eventually led to From Zero.
LINKIN PARK officially unveiled its new lineup on September 5, 2024, during a special livestreamed performance in Los Angeles. The band also released “The Emptiness Machine,” its first new single in seven years, and announced its eighth studio album.
Armstrong and Brittain assumed roles previously held by Bennington and original drummer Rob Bourdon, but the band presented its return as a continuation built around a different structure rather than a direct replacement of its past. Brad Delson remains a member of LINKIN PARK and continues contributing to the band’s studio work, although he no longer tours with the group.
“Unshatter” combines archival material, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the musicians and their fans, and performances recorded during sold-out concerts. Its story extends from the uncertain studio sessions of 2022 through the release of From Zero and LINKIN PARK’s album-launch concert in São Paulo.
Joe Hahn, LINKIN PARK’s DJ and the creative figure behind much of the group’s visual identity, directed the film. His previous work includes numerous LINKIN PARK music videos, including “Numb,” “Somewhere I Belong,” “What I’ve Done” and “The Emptiness Machine.”
“‘Unshatter’ follows a very particular moment in LINKIN PARK’s history and documents a path through loss, uncertainty, friendship, and reinvention,” Hahn said in a statement.
The theatrical release will be accompanied by “Unshatter Film Soundtrack (Live in São Paulo),” a live album featuring 20 tracks recorded during the band’s performance in Brazil.
The soundtrack covers multiple periods of LINKIN PARK’s career. Its selection includes material from the band’s earlier catalog alongside songs from From Zero. Performances of “Somewhere I Belong,” “The Catalyst,” “Waiting for the End,” “Numb,” “In the End,” “Papercut” and “Bleed It Out” connect the current lineup with the group’s previous eras.
According to the official announcement, the soundtrack contains exclusive recordings that are not featured in the film itself. It will therefore serve as a companion release rather than an exact audio reproduction of the documentary.
The CD edition is expected to ship around September 25, five days before the movie reaches theaters.
