Devildriver has presented 'Iona', second single from their upcoming studio album, 'Dealing With Demons I', which will be available from October 9 through Napalm Records.
The single is also available through the main streaming channels, you can listen to it, here.
The leader of the gang, Dez Fafara talks about it, “Iona is unlike any other song we've released as a Devildriver. From the frantic verses to the haunting chorus, this song goes forward and pushes our sound and the listener's ears to the limit! The chorus "she carries a black rose, effigy from a story closed", tells the story of the ghost of Iona, long since dead and her obsession with death represented by the black roses on her hands and each time she takes a soul of this world by a dark path, her soul is assimilated to those black roses and she will carry them for eternity.
This topic relates to myself and “Dealing with Demons I” in the sense that very often we as people have a hard time “letting go” of things. This can be applied to relationships, death, etc. Iona carrying the black roses symbolizes her inability to move on, always seeking revenge. The past is exactly that, the past, it is important to let go and not get caught in a perpetual cycle of living on memories. ”
