As the release of Strike And Kill approaches, groove metal veterans DEVILDRIVER have unveiled “Dead In The Water”, the second official single from the album, which is set to arrive on July 10 through Napalm Records.s
The track follows “Dig Your Own Grave”, the album's lead single, which surpassed 400,000 combined streams across platforms, became a staple on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, and climbed multiple metal radio and specialty charts in the weeks following its release.
Built around explosive blast beats, blackened guitar harmonies, and the band's trademark heaviness, “Dead In The Water” showcases a more uplifting lyrical perspective from vocalist Dez Fafara, who focuses on perseverance, resilience, and overcoming adversity.
Discussing the song, Fafara said:
“This is one of the most positive songs I've ever written lyrically, coming from a very dark time straight into blinding light. I needed to empower others to do the same as I did, and tell them to ‘stay the course,’ life turns around if given the chance to flourish. The vibe musically on this is very old-school DEVILDRIVER and the entire band is cracking hard here, if you're a long time listener you're gonna love this one! Enjoy!”
The album also marks the return of founding bassist Jon Miller, who joins Fafara, guitarists Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold, and drummer Davier Ortega Perez in the current lineup.
According to the band, Strike And Kill represents a return to the raw and aggressive spirit that helped establish DEVILDRIVER as one of the defining names in modern groove metal.
