Converge have released “Doom In Bloom”, the new single serving as the first preview of their upcoming album Hum Of Hurt, set for release on June 5, 2026 via Deathwish/Epitaph. The record marks the band’s second full-length release of the year, following Love Is Not Enough.
The track stands as a direct, raw and uncompromising piece, reinforcing the band’s move toward a more exposed and visceral sound. The instrumentation blends the sharp riffs of Kurt Ballou, the dense bass of Nate Newton and the precise drumming of Ben Koller, forming the foundation for Jacob Bannon’s intense and strained vocal performance.
Speaking about the track, Bannon said: “It’s dark and pointed right at you. Lyrically, I’m exploring how my own middle-aged introspection doesn’t always bring clarity. I see my own traps reflected in those around me. I’m urging them to find a way out, to keep going”.
“Doom In Bloom” ties into the broader concept behind Hum Of Hurt, inspired by the phenomenon known as “The Hum”, a low-frequency sound reported across different parts of the world. In this context, Jacob Bannon reimagines it as a manifestation of collective human suffering — a constant signal generated by accumulated pain.
The album itself emerged from a creative process that resulted in two distinct records. As Bannon explains: “We ended up with so much material that we realized we had created two separate albums. This isn’t a sequel. It has its own identity”.
While Love Is Not Enough leaned more toward metal territory, Hum Of Hurt shifts closer to emotional hardcore, maintaining the band’s signature intensity while embracing a more dynamic structure.
