At The Gates have unveiled a full-length animated film accompanying The Ghost of a Future Dead, the album released earlier this year that became the final recorded statement from late frontman Tomas Lindberg, who died in September 2025.
The project was created entirely by longtime collaborator Costin Chioreanu, who handled the painting, filming, editing and production. Animated videos for “The Dissonant Void” and “In Dark Distortion” had already introduced the concept; the remaining song visuals and a continuous full-album version are now available.
Chioreanu described it as one of the most demanding projects of his career, both technically and emotionally. Rather than simply illustrating individual songs, he built a conceptual storyline running through the record and called the completed film a “monument” to his friend Tomas.
The Ghost of a Future Dead was released on April 24, 2026 through Century Media Records. The album was recorded before Lindberg’s death, with Jens Bogren overseeing production and mixing at Fascination Street Studios. Lindberg recorded his vocals before undergoing surgery connected to the cancer diagnosis he received in 2023.
The animated film now completes the visual side of a record already inseparable from Lindberg’s legacy. More than an extended music video, Chioreanu’s work serves as a final visual companion to The Ghost of a Future Dead and another deeply personal tribute to the voice that defined At The Gates for more than three decades.
