Stitched Up Heart have unveiled “Medusa,” a new single accompanied by a music video inspired by Greek mythology that reimagines one of antiquity's most famous figures as a symbol of resistance, transformation, and reclaiming personal power. The song features special guest vocalist Lyric Noel and stands as one of the band's most direct statements to date about overcoming betrayal and rebuilding emotional strength.
Vocalist Mixi explained that the song emerged as a response to personal experiences involving disappointment, emotional manipulation, and the need to regain control over her own story. Rather than portraying Medusa as a victim or a monster, the song transforms her into a figure of strength capable of turning pain into power. “‘Medusa’ is about finally flipping the script on something that has tried to curse you. A battle cry for the women who were betrayed and serving justice by venom with a smile.”
The singer said the creative process allowed her to clearly identify situations that had affected her emotionally for a long time and transform them into a statement of independence and resilience. “Writing this song felt like clearly recognizing a betrayal, shedding your own skin, and spitting out the venom that was meant to poison you by claiming your power back. It's the perfect mirror — I'm not the girl getting gaslit and nauseous anymore. I'm the one with the Medusa stare turning problems to stone unapologetically. I'm not asking for permission anymore. I am here — I'm reborn, venomous, and ready.”
The release arrives alongside a music video filmed in Dallas, Texas, whose narrative draws inspiration from the classic legend of Perseus and Medusa, while completely reversing the traditional story. Instead of portraying Medusa as a figure defeated by the Greek hero, the production presents a version in which the protagonists take control of their fate and confront the person attempting to destroy them.
The video's original concept came from Mixi herself, who envisioned a story centered around twin Medusas within a visual world filled with mythological references, symbolism, and dreamlike imagery. The production uses physical and emotional transformation as the core of its narrative, reinforcing the song's message about shedding old wounds and emerging stronger.
One of the most memorable elements of the shoot was the inclusion of a live snake, a figure inevitably associated with the Medusa myth. However, the experience was very different from the perception people often have of the animal. “The snake was actually scared of me. It had the sweetest soul and wasn't evil at all like people often portray snakes to be.”
Musically, “Medusa” blends the intensity of modern hard rock with alternative metal elements and a vocal performance filled with both aggression and vulnerability. The appearance of Lyric Noel adds another layer to the song's dynamic and reinforces the confrontational nature of its message.
The track was produced by Cameron Mizell, known for his work with Machine Gun Kelly and Sleeping With Sirens, alongside Evan McKeever, whose credits include Starset and Miranda Lambert. The result is a song designed to deliver impact both in the studio and on stage.
