Former Misfits vocalist Michale Graves has seen multiple UK tour dates canceled following pressure from segments of the British punk community over his past political statements.
In 2020, Graves publicly expressed support on social media for the U.S. far-right group Proud Boys. In 2021, he again sparked controversy by voicing support for individuals associated with the MAGA movement who were involved in the January 6 Capitol unrest during the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
Those statements have now impacted his UK “Sticks And Stones” tour with American Monster Band. The Underworld in Camden, London, removed the scheduled concert from its listings after protests and confirmed the cancellation. The decision followed reported mobilization against the show.
Holy Diver in Stockport also canceled its February 28 date, stating in a public message that it is and will remain “a space for everyone” and that it is not politically aligned with Graves’ views. Other venues, including SUB89 in Reading and The Bullingdon in Oxford, have also removed the scheduled dates from their websites.
In response, Graves released a statement saying he does not promote violence, hatred or harm. He acknowledged differing opinions and expressed concern about venue staff facing pressure. He called for disagreements to remain peaceful and for workers behind the scenes to be treated respectfully.
Meanwhile, some venues such as The Marrs Bar and locations in Corby and Worcester are, for now, maintaining their scheduled shows. The situation underscores the ongoing intersection of politics and punk culture — a genre long associated with activism and ideological debate.
