Spiritbox have released “Mourning” on September 8, their first new music since Tsunami Sea arrived in March 2025. Released through Pale Chord / Rise Records, the single explores a more restrained and atmospheric side of the Canadian band while retaining the dynamic weight at the core of their sound.
Courtney LaPlante leads the track largely through clean vocals as guitars, percussion and ambient layers gradually build around her. Guitarist Mike Stringer co-produced the song with longtime collaborator Dan Braunstein.
The single arrives with a video co-directed by Alex Bemis and Stringer. Moving away from much of the stark black-and-white imagery associated with the Tsunami Sea era, the clip places Spiritbox in vivid outdoor landscapes alongside surreal structures and a recurring hooded figure.
“Mourning” follows a record that reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart and No. 26 on the Billboard 200. “Soft Spine” also earned Spiritbox their third consecutive Best Metal Performance Grammy nomination, following previous nods for “Jaded” and “Cellar Door.”
The song arrives days before Spiritbox begin their U.K. and European headline tour on September 12 in Glasgow, with Jinjer and Dying Wish joining the run. The itinerary includes the band’s September 19 show at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.
Spiritbox have not announced another album yet, making “Mourning” the first concrete look at where the band intends to go after Tsunami Sea.
