Mastodon have officially announced their new studio album, Marrow Deep, scheduled for release on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled "Snakes For Dinner," the album's second single, accompanied by an official music video featuring Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.
Following the release of "Your Ghost Again," the new track offers another look at the band's upcoming record. Built around crushing riffs, expansive melodies, and dynamic arrangements, "Snakes For Dinner" explores the lingering absence of loved ones and the emotional process of moving forward, themes that run throughout Marrow Deep.
The song also marks Josh Homme's first appearance on a Mastodon recording since "Colony of Birchmen" from the band's acclaimed 2006 album Blood Mountain. In addition to contributing guest vocals, Homme appears in the accompanying music video released with the single.
Due out on August 28, Marrow Deep will be the band's first full-length album to feature guitarist Nick Johnston, alongside significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira. The record was co-produced by Mastodon with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou at the band's West End Sound studio in Atlanta, while Andrew Scheps handled mixing duties.
Inspired by the Three Fates of Greek mythology, Marrow Deep explores themes of destiny, loss, and transformation through interconnected compositions that form the conceptual backbone of the album.
The announcement follows the recent release of the short film The Mastodon in the Room, in which the band reflects on the departure of founding guitarist Brent Hinds and the beginning of a new chapter. Bassist Troy Sanders said the current lineup has brought renewed enthusiasm to the group.
"Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this. The new members are incredibly excited to be part of the band. It reminds us of the early days of Mastodon, when everyone was hungry to create, united, and eager to get back to work."
Following the album's release, Mastodon will launch The Poisonous Weapons Tour across North America with Deafheaven and Alcest. The tour begins on September 16 in Orlando, Florida, and includes Canadian dates before concluding on October 24 at Sick New World Dallas.
