CULT OF LUNA will release its tenth studio album, In The Shadow Of Your Shadow, on November 6 through RED CRK. Alongside the announcement, the band has shared the album's title track and accompanying music video, while also confirming upcoming appearances at ArcTanGent and Damnation Festival.
Formed in Umeå, Sweden, in 1998, CULT OF LUNA has built one of the most respected catalogs in contemporary post-metal. Across more than two decades, the band has developed a sound defined by expansive compositions, dynamic structures and a balance between crushing heaviness and atmospheric depth.
In The Shadow Of Your Shadow runs for 71 minutes and features guest appearances from GOJIRA frontman Joe Duplantier and David Eugene Edwards, known for his work with Wovenhand and 16 Horsepower.
The first preview of the record arrives through “In The Shadow Of Your Shadow”, a composition built around the idea of buried trauma resurfacing after years of silence.
Vocalist and guitarist Johannes Persson explained that the song focuses on the persistence of a destructive part of the self that never truly disappears.
“In The Shadow Of Your Shadow is written through the eyes of the traitor within. A battle once fought and believed to be won. A conviction that this venomous part of yourself had been buried so deep it could never return. But it was always there, hidden in the cracks of the persona. Silent. Patient. Waiting for the right moment to emerge once again.”
The track retains many of the elements that have defined the band's recent work. Gradual developments, shifts in intensity and layered guitars remain central to a composition that extends far beyond conventional metal songwriting structures.
The album follows The Long Road North, released in 2022, a record that led CULT OF LUNA through multiple touring cycles across Europe and North America. Between releases, the band continued writing new material while maintaining a selective live schedule.
Throughout the years, CULT OF LUNA has maintained a trajectory largely detached from trends and commercial cycles. Albums such as Salvation, Somewhere Along The Highway, Vertikal, A Dawn To Fear and The Long Road North helped establish a distinct identity within modern experimental metal.
