APOCALYPTICA to bring “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” to Mexico and South America with massive 2026/2027 tour

Finnish cello-metal legends APOCALYPTICA officially announced their massive “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” South American tour, including major performances in Monterrey and Mexico City.

Apocalyptica will return to Latin America with one of the most ambitious tours of their recent career. The legendary Finnish group officially confirmed the “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” tour, an extensive run across South America throughout late 2026 and early 2027 that will also include two major performances in Mexico.

The tour begins on October 3 in Lima, Peru, before traveling through Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile ahead of its final shows in Mexico during January 2027.

In Mexico, the band will perform on January 14 at Escenario GNP in Monterrey and later arrive at the iconic Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City on January 16.

The “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” concept serves as a direct continuation of the material that originally transformed APOCALYPTICA into an international phenomenon during the 1990s. The band gained worldwide recognition by reinterpreting songs from Metallica using only cellos, creating a completely unique identity that fused classical music, metal and cinematic arrangements.

Decades later, the project continues to resonate strongly within the global heavy music scene. This new tour expands the concept introduced on the recent album Plays Metallica Vol. 2, where the band revisits Metallica classics with heavier production, darker atmospheres and a more modern sonic approach.

Current members Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen and Perttu Kivilaakso continue proving how cello metal can evolve while preserving the emotional intensity and aggression that made the band one of Europe’s most innovative heavy acts.

Throughout their career, APOCALYPTICA have not only redefined the relationship between classical instrumentation and heavy metal, but also collaborated with major artists connected to Slipknot, Rammstein and System Of A Down.
