Type O Negative are continuing to open their archives. Kenny Hickey says the band’s forthcoming live album is nearing the final mixing stage and could arrive during the first quarter of 2027 if production schedules fall into place. He has also confirmed plans to eventually release “Prometheus,” an unreleased song recovered from the October Rust sessions.
Hickey is currently finishing the editing and organisation of the concert material before handing it over to Mike Marciano, who worked with Type O Negative extensively as an engineer and mixer. The decision followed a test mix of “Love You To Death,” which Hickey said sounded strong enough to move forward with Marciano on the full project.
There is no firm release date yet. Even once the audio is finished, Hickey noted that vinyl manufacturing and the wider release setup require several additional months. His current target is therefore early 2027 rather than a locked date.
The other discovery comes from a much older source. Johnny Kelly recently found a reference cassette dating back to the period when Type O Negative were working on October Rust in 1996. Among the recordings was a complete song Hickey believes was called “Prometheus.”
Hickey admits he barely remembers recording it. Listening back decades later, some sections were familiar while much of the track felt almost new to him. He described it as a medium-sized piece by Peter Steele’s standards, noting that Steele’s songs often became considerably larger as arrangements developed.
Kelly has previously explained that portions of the composition were later reused elsewhere, including material that eventually surfaced on Life Is Killing Me. The cassette nevertheless contains a complete version of “Prometheus.”
