Queens of the Stone Age have released “Where the Goth Girls At?,” the third preview of Perfecth, the band’s ninth album and the follow-up to In Times New Roman…. Due October 30 through Matador Records, the record finds Josh Homme drawing this time from something unusually specific: memories of growing up in the Palm Desert suburbs and the fascination, awkwardness and urge to impress that came with teenage attraction. The song starts from a deliberately stripped-down riff that leaves room around Homme’s vocal before opening into a much larger chorus, reinforced by string and horn arrangements. The shift in scale allows Queens of the Stone Age to move from something relatively intimate into an expansive payoff without overcrowding the song. BroadwayWorld
The video reunites the band with Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, who also directed “Easy Street.” Set around an abandoned power plant, it imagines a world where the goth girls hold the authority and gradually transform everyone who crosses their path. Comedian Steve Agee, dancer and artist Scarlett Kapella, singer and actress Lou Lou Safran and the members of Queens of the Stone Age all appear, with generous amounts of black ink incorporated into the visual concept.
Produced by Josh Homme and Michael Shuman, the nine-track album emerged from sessions held across multiple locations, including New Orleans and Los Angeles. Homme has described the record as intentionally varied, with each song built to feel as though it comes from a different world while circling love, lust, loss and what people learn from surviving them.
The band has also used the Japanese art of kintsugi as one of the ideas behind the album: repairing something broken without disguising the fractures. On Perfecth, that notion is tied to different forms of love and the ways relationships can damage, rebuild or permanently change the people inside them.
The release arrives during a busy touring stretch that will take Queens of the Stone Age through North America, Japan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Mexico is already on the 2027 calendar: the band will play Mexico City’s Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes on March 6 with Interpol, with further headline dates expected to be announced.
