After a very unsuccessful 'Father of All Motherfuckers', where the essence of Green Day seemed to have been totally diluted, the band has once again hit the table with ' Saviors', their best work in at least a decade and which takes us back to the old days of one of the biggest punk bands - or whatever you want to call them - of our times .
Now, returning to the hands of producer Rob Cavallo with whom they cemented their identity and their greatest hits, Green Day has managed to return to that more casual sound and far from the poses they had taken as their own in their last albums. discs. Wow, let's say that the attitude of freedom and that well-known spirit of confrontation is felt again, maybe not like in the days of 'Dookie', but if we talk about that Billie Joe Armstrong and his companions are close to 50 years old, nor can we expect them to be exactly the same.
The band decided to leave out that simple and stupid pop-punk sound that cost them so much criticism in their previous work and return to the political stance that has always characterized them since the beginning of the album with 'The American Dream is Killing Me', an anthem pop-punk so purely Green Day and that had already been visible since his television appearance rebuking Donald Trump's MAGA movement a few weeks ago.
In 'Saviors', Green Day takes aim at everyone: from Brexit, the aforementioned Donald Trump, the racism so deeply rooted in North American culture, conspiracies and even generation Z all from the perspective of a renewed band that remembered who they were and what their mission was within music and the music industry.
Of course, there is no shortage of fun moments, where relaxed and unpretentious punk makes its appearance in songs like 'Look Ma, No Brains!', 'Coma City' or '1981'. And of course, the ballads that have been one of the band's greatest strengths in their career are not left out, highlighting the great 'Father to Son' and 'Fancy Sauce' to momentarily lower the revolutions.
'Saviors' brings Green Day back to its best days and is without a doubt, its best work since that distant ' American Idiot', showing that despite the passing of the years, they can remain relevant and release a good album. Green Day is still here.
