Simone Simons releases solo single, 'R.E.D.'

The Epica singer continues her path towards her first solo album

Simone Simons, the vocalist of Epica presents 'R.E.D.', the first single from her long-awaited album 'Vermillion', which will be released on August 23rd via Nuclear Blast Records.

In 'R.E.D.', Simons and his musical partner, Arjen Lucassen, explore the complex relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. The song weaves a futuristic narrative where the AI, in its search for self-knowledge, longs for emotions that its synthetic nature prevents it from.

'R.E.D.' is a profound reflection on technological advances and the existential dilemmas that accompany growing artificial intelligence, inviting the listener to question the future of humanity in a world shaped by technology.

When asked about the perfect time to embark on this exciting foray into the realm of a solo career, the talented Dutch singer responds with a captivating smile: “Epica has always been and will continue to be my absolute priority. However, I have the freedom to explore other musical projects parallel to my career with the band. Even so, I had never found the opportunity to delve into a project of this magnitude until now.”

In fact, some endeavors require an extra dose of patience and dedication, and Vermillion certainly fits into that category. Simone made the wise decision not to rush the creative process of her solo project, opting for a considered and careful approach when shaping her artistic presentation. It is in this context that renowned musician Arjen Lucassen (AYREON) enters the scene, a long-standing musical partner and collaborator who is already familiar with Simone's captivating operatic voice. Together, they have designed a sound universe that perfectly reflects the artist's influential stature. And while many might see a solo effort as an opportunity for a radical, or even provocative, break from everything they previously stood for, Simone remains true to her passions: epic melodies, great choruses, and monumental and intelligent music.
