He Power Metal Latin American dresses up to receive Revelations, the most recent work of Costa Ricans Wings Of Destiny. Released on May 31, 2019, the album is a conceptual work that through thirteen themes tells the story of a young man who immerses himself in a kind of vision, where he must face various demons, even giving his life to eradicate said evil. All this with the help of angels and other heavenly creatures in a true divine war.
The album cover is the work of the Brazilian artist Caio Caldas, with whom the band has previously worked, and who has also illustrated covers of bands such as Dragonforce. Since we don't want to do spoiler of any detail of the story narrated, we will focus only on the musical composition of the work as such in this review.
The album opens with an elaborate piece of the same name to the album title, with great arrangements in a mix between symphony orchestra and tribal sounds, which almost two minutes after the song detonate at the beginning of the odyssey with speed and a sublime composition of almost seven minutes long. A heart beats to the rhythm of 'Divine', a dark and malevolent prelude to usher in the brutal 'Rising Chaos' with a powerful combination of aggressive but also progressive sounds. In this theme the collaboration of the guitarist is noted Roland Grapow (Masterplan and ex-Helloween) as well as keyboards Bob Katsionis (Firewind). 'Here We Go ' It is the direct entry into battle from that intro with the sounds of swords and war, which lay the foundation for accelerated power metal and catchy vowels. Later 'Facing The Beast' again with the hand of Katsionis It is a theme that does not lower the pedal and maintains the vertigo and acceleration of work.
It is time to breathe a little and let the pulsations decrease, before the trumpets make us resume the rhythm in 'Stand And Fight', It has a much slower and heavier rhythm, let's say it is a bit monotonous. In this part of the album you feel like you are submerging yourself in slightly darker atmospheres and the speed returns with 'Under The Moon', so that later we have 'Free Fall' an excellent melody with amazing rhythm changes in which it must be one of the tracks with more progressive influence. 'Lost In Dark' flaunting its name, it is a dark and flaming theme, with a butchering riff that makes you want to move your cervicals up and down. To catch your breath a little and in the form of power ballad we have 'Wake Me Up'where the combination of relaxing piano sounds with the voice of the guest vocalist Henning Basse (Firewind and ex-Mayan) they generate the most leisurely and melodic moment of all the work.
'Possessed' On the contrary, it is a subject where madness and guttural beasts assail you from the beginning: clean voices seem to have completely ceded their reign except in the choirs, to let the infernal gorges take center stage. We are reaching the end of the album and the story, and the angelic choirs and bells are the entrance to 'Requiem', that personally I create the most loose and linear theme of the album, and more after the sound experience of the previous themes. The work closes with 'Post Mortem', which maintains a simple orchestral and percussion combination that serves as an epitaph and a farewell to the great adventure.
In conclusion we can say that Wings Of Destiny delivery in Revelations a complex job worthy of the big leagues of the Power Metal, with a fantastic story of angels and demons that you can easily follow both in the lyrics and with the rhythms printed in the songs. An excellent release from a band that seems to be in a tremendous moment for sure.
