En el que fuera uno de los últimos conciertos en México previo a las restricciones globales por la presencia del coronavirus, nos salvamos por nada y pudimos disfrutar de la primera vez de Soen en tierras aztecas. Una visita tan exitosa que tras anunciarse el sold out del primer concierto, se ofertó una segunda función el mismo día pero más temprano, que también gozó de una gran entrada. Así de esperada era la visita de esta enorme agrupación.
While in the night function Ekos fue la banda mexicana que abrió la presentación, en la función de las 5 PM Soen apareció directo y de golpe. Ambas presentaciones arrancaron a tambor batiente con Covenant, seguida de las enormes y potentes "Opal" and "Rival". Sin embargo, mientras que en el show vespertino "Sap" fue el tema tocado a continuación, en la noche este tema no aparecería hasta de forma posterior al encore, y su lugar sería tomado por "Tabula Rasa" en exclusiva para esta presentación. “Es un gusto venir aquí, un sueño cumplido venir a Latinoamérica. Nadie pensaba pasaría pero aquí estamos juntos en espíritu” comments Joel Ekelöf al micrófono quien hay que decirlo: es un cantante en verdad potente y de una calidad vocal impresionante como quedó constatado en "Lascivious", "Jinn" and "Opponent ”.
The other big cheer of the night would of course be Martín López. The former drummer of Opeth and creative mind of Soen With Joakim Platbarzdis (quien abandonaría el proyecto hace cinco años) pudo escuchar su nombre siendo coreado por la multitud tras aporrear los tambores en Lucidity and Martyrs. In the end Soen thanking those who bought tickets for the two functions, he decided to change the setlist, y mientras que en la primera función el viaje al espacio nos transportó hasta "Pluto", en el show nocturno fue "Fractions" the theme that would partially close the show.
Soen I would return to the stage and they are happy and grateful, with a Joel Ekelöf that every one who could came up smiling to chat with Cody Ford on the guitar, while on the other end Lars Åhlund more in the shadows he juggled alternating the guitar with the keyboards and even some bongos. "The Words" again it would only be played at the 5 PM show, but in the end both shows would conclude with the power of "Sectarian" and "Lotus". Soen says goodbye amid a sea of applause and makes it clear that as the saying goes, the first times are always the best.
