“Go back to our origins” is a phrase commonly used within the world of music, when an artist seeks to return to his early years and the essence of the sound that perhaps he lost or modified throughout the evolution that comes with the years. Many times, it is only said “pay lip service” as a vile marketing strategy, however, in the case of Apocalyptica it becomes literal.
At the beginning of the 90s, a trio of Finnish boys shocked the world with their peculiar proposal, playing the classic songs of Metallica, with cellos, an instrument that was thought to be totally removed from the world of metal. Now, three decades later, Apocalyptica has decided that it is the right time to return to that essence and now, once again being the trio that started it all, to launch a second part of their peculiar way of honoring the biggest metal band on the planet.
“We have decided that for now, we will stay as it all started with just the three of us,” says Perttu Kivilaasko, speaking with Summa Inferno, “After all the changes, the evolution we had, we thought that The best thing is that the cellos return to being Apocalyptica, just as it all began.”
