Norwegian Gaahl, controversial former vocalist from Gorgoroth, who has also participated in various projects such as Trelldom, Wardruna and God Seed, among others, now returns with Gaahls WYRD, again a concept within Black Metal.
Gaahls WYRD arises after the legal problems that sustained the same Gaahl and King Ov Hell for the rights of the name of Gorgoroth. After the lawsuit was won by King Ov Hell, Gaahl had to use the God Seed name for his gang which later disappeared.
The new band with which Gaahl Looking to get back on track in his musical career, he has a combination of throaty voices and clean voices that are pleasant to the ear, despite the fact that the music is not so aggressive, the atmosphere it creates is interesting.
It was recently released under the Season of Mist record label, GastiR – Ghosts Invited, The Norwegian band's first studio album, which in 2017 released a live album recorded in Bergen, Norway, in which they practically played songs by Trelldom. It should be noted that the group has been on constant tour in Europe, presenting a setlist of the best of the trajectory of Gaahl.
This work includes 8 tracks that take place over a little over 40 minutes, from where the singles emerge Ghost Invited and From The Spear. The opening is the responsibility of the chaotic piece Ek Erilar, which is presented as a preliminary game that leads us to contemplate the style of Gaahl in his last participations especially with God seed.
With the passage of the tracks you can find songs like Carving the Voices, that could well define the album's own style: Raw and dark with a “romantic” touch that at certain times translates into a dreamlike parallel through the sense of hearing.
The album develops at a rhythm that suddenly becomes slow, but as the songs go by it begins to take shape, in truth each piece makes up a well-defined totality. There is really that soft Black Metal that at certain moments has sparks of rawness.
The controversial Gaahl, who has declared himself satanic, returns to the grounds of Black Metal after he announced his retirement from music in 2009 and that he has been continuously criticized due to his open homosexuality, in addition to frequent problems who has faced justice.
