The world of industrial music has been basically the same for over a decade. Formed just five years ago in Los Angeles, the band headed
I think there are many levels of understanding behind the messages in our music and it is completely acceptable that some people don't want to delve too deeply into it. I want everyone to decide how much or how little they want to go into our music. If you choose to be ignorant of the deep message and just want to rock, it's totally fine with me. I don't want to tell anyone how to live or think, I just want to give them the courage to question it.
They have been on tour with great bands on the scene like Tool or Rammstein, what were the experiences you got from it?
We have been very fortunate to be touring with those two bands in particular, not only because they are two of my favorite bands but they are amazing artists who are very committed to their vision and why it led to their success. In today's music industry things have become very diluted and people are afraid of offending others and so they keep quiet. Bands like Tool or Rammstein are clear examples that you can maintain your artistic integrity and at the same time fill arenas and stadiums.
Are you planning to release new material this year or in the near future?
Can we hear any collaboration on this new album? They did some last year and it would be nice to see something similar in their new music.
No, there are no collaborations on this new album but there is a cover that will surely surprise many people, as it is a song that is totally out of the range of the music we make. I must also say that we are currently working on some collaborations individually with artists of various genres which I cannot mention yet, but they will be great. For now, we are just experimenting.
At the level you are currently in, can you subsist solely on music?
Yes, at least now we are already full time with the project and we still barely survive on the profits it generates but we hope that one day we will not be as financially stressed as we are now. We make music because we love to do it not for the money, but it would be great to have more resources at our disposal to do bigger things, more crazy about art and not be worried about paying our phone bills. So we hope someday to be able to achieve it but in the meantime we will continue working for it.
“Terminé completamente
in love with the Mexican vibe,
of the trip, the people, the food,
el tequila, todo fue asombroso.”
Generally, the type of music he makes is dark, brutal, and heavy. How do you relax from all of that while offstage?
We listen to a lot of music from Steely Dan when we go on the tour bus after the show to calm down, and sometimes we also smoke a pot of marijuana to help us relieve our stress.
What is the future for the industrial music movement?
I have no idea! I think industrial music is such an open and broad genre that people will constantly be creating and debating what is and what is not industrial. I only know that we will continue making this type of music that we love so much until the day of our death.
Am I honest to you? He was one of the best we have given in our entire career. The Mexican public has a wonderful energy and the whole thing was almost surreal. Playing right there on the beach was like a dream. I ended up completely in love with the Mexican vibe, the trip, the people, the food, the tequila, everything was amazing. I can't wait to go back and hope to play in Mexico City next time.
