Cavalera to re-record Sepultura's Schizophrenia album

The Cavalera brothers' name has become synonymous with Extreme Metal and is a name that remains very important to this day, with a family legacy built on decades of musical aggressiveness. In 2023, Max and Iggor Cavalera accomplished what some would say was an impossible feat: they revisited their first releases, Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastationand re-recorded them with bone-crunching intensity. A risk few would even dare attempt, but they artistically and prolifically achieved their signature raw sound through means that could only be described as magic or time travel.

And it looks like the ball hasn't stopped rolling, as they are now entering the final chapter of their initial trilogy. Schizophrenia is an iconic album from the beginnings of thrash and death metal, a name familiar to those of us involved in extreme metal. This was the point at which Cavalera refined their somber, dirty, speed-influenced songs into something a little more mature, developed and technical. Decades later, they have once again opened the asylum that is Schizophrenia, opening the doors to that banished and twisted recording that will be released to the world on June 21 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The first preview of the re-release comes in the form of a live music video for the single'Escape To The Void'. Fans will be treated to footage filmed by Costin Chioreanu and Olivia Chioreanu of the band's chilling performance at the 013 Venue in Tilburg, Netherlands, in 2023.

Max Cavalera declares: “The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with Schizophrenia, Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions, the three jewels of the Brazilian underground! For me, Schizophrenia is the ultimate death/thrash experiment! I was inspired to take on the world and this recording shows that my commitment is relentless! It's for all generations to enjoy! Listen at maximum volume!

Iggor Cavalera comments: “1987 was a very progressive year for metal, with releases like Into The Pandemonium by CELTIC FROST, Killing Technology by VOIVOD and Under The Sign Of The Black Mark by BATHORY, so it wasn't a surprise how we approached Schizophrenia, pushing our limits from a black/death metal sound to a more thrash metal aesthetic. We still had some ideas from Morbid Visions and some new songs. I am very proud of our compositions and even more proud of our re-recordings.”
