One of the most anticipated returns by Mexican progressive metal fans was undoubtedly that of the North American band. Between The Buried And Me (BTBAM). Finally and after five years of their last visit, the group from North Carolina showed up at the Lunario of the National Auditorium presenting their records Automaton 1 and 2, launched in 2018. The event would start on time with the performance of the Mexican band Acrania, a group that mixes infinity of rhythms and sub-genres with metal in a bizarre and very original way. After the performance of the nationals, the venue had a good entrance and the people with drinks in hand were ready to receive their favorite band.
The lights go out and BTBM makes its arrival with all the power of "Astral Body ”, although the microphone of Tommy Rogers He plays a trick on him because nothing is heard for a couple of minutes, until the malfunction is fixed. The singer goes from one side to the other gutting microphone in hand topics like Lay Your Ghosts to Rest and the powerful "Alaska" that with its sound so close to deathcore it even puts a small circle of fans to do slam at the far left of the forum; but also bowing down in front of the keyboard playing the amazing sounds of songs like "The Coma Machine" and Mirrors. Paul Wagoner, the other founding member of BTBAM present, for its part; sounds the guitar with powerful rumble and extreme virtuosity in "Obfuscation" and "Condemned to the Gallows".
Without a doubt the great magic of BTBAM It is that insane and powerful way of making progressive metal mixing it in a crooked cocktail with sounds very close to the hardcore, but also with rhythms like jazz and the swing among others; with those gutturals that in topics like Glide They delighted the attendees. "I hope you are having a good time, time to have fun friends" announces Rogers into the microphone in his open plaid camisole fluttering as the slim vocalist moves and Voices Of Trespass unleashes with its rhythm burlesque and aggressive a real party in the Lunary. It is at that moment that the band says goodbye momentarily to the applause of the people who, of course, ask for more. One feels that there have been few themes until one realizes the time and discovers that it is not, and that the power and way of playing theme after theme of BTBAM relentlessly they are to blame for that feeling.
The band quickly returns to the stage and after remembering that their last visit dates from 5 years ago and that they are very happy to be back, they resume the show with Selkies: The Endless Obsession. Even if BTBAM It is a band with little interaction with people and that is dedicated to what it is to play, they take the time to ask for applause for the opening band, Acrania. The show is about to end and with Viridian and White Walls where everyone applauds with arms up in total euphoria, the group says goodbye promising their faithful automata not to take long to return.
