Attack 77, will visit Mexico City on October 17 at the Condesa Square, a venue where they already had success in 2015, this occasion will be a little more special as it is in the framework of their 30th career anniversary.
The celebration of 3 decades on stage and the expectation of a new record material was news that made fans happy, a taste that faded when in mid-2017 Mariano Martinez, guitar and voice of the group, stated in a video his respiratory problems that prevented him from developing in recitals, affecting a couple of dates, one in Costa Rica and the other in Mexico, clarified the delay of the new album, originally planned in 3 EP that would be released throughout the year, a plan that was not accepted by their record label but invited patience because there would be new material at some point, perhaps this being one of the last things the group would do.
Let's remember that in 2009 it comes out Ciro Pertusi, meaning a great loss for the band, although for many it meant the end of Attack 77, this continued as a trio now led by Mariano, continuing with a presence on stage and the album "Estallar", and although Cyrus He has participated in some special presentations, this does not mean that he is coming back to stay, after several years of this the public has not subtracted the support for the band.
With a punk rock trend that some dismiss as having some flexibility to deal with not so crude themes belonging to the punk flag, with its musical repertoire that includes topics ranging from rebellion, struggle and a clear tendency to point out the problems of their environment and certain entities that affect everyday life, have also been given space to talk about love, dreams, their tastes, what moves them, telling small stories of characters that we do not seem to see on a daily basis, even going to the extreme with letters that they speak of low passions. Being one of the most representative bands of the genre in Argentina today it is worth remembering their trajectory and how their trends marked.
They debuted in 1987 and the following year they appear in the INVASIÓN 88 compilation along with Phlegm, Suicidal Command, The Baraja, among others on the Argentine scene, for 1989 they already have their first album "Dulce Navidad", although the date seems distant, the songs are still valid, since the essence of Attack it appears in "Sola en la Cancha", "Gil", "There is a Bomb in the School", "Papá arrived Borracho"; a first album that for many could be basic due to the way of composition but that showed a personality that they wanted to exploit.
For 1990 with his second album titled "El Cielo Can Esperar" he consolidates his sound while winking at his influences, pointing out that Argentina is sick, with dreams of death and freedom, without forgetting love, missing, accepting mistakes, a wide variety of themes that characterize his work, here are great hits like "Heaven Can Wait", "Swords and Serpents" "Where the Eagles Dare", in addition to "Do it for Me" the song that meant a great boost in his career being in 1991 the opening theme of the hit self-titled television show hosted by Mario Pergonili, impacting an exhibition that no one imagined taking them to a mass audience. As a curious fact, in said television program Black Sabbath with It gave in 1992.
After the “89-92” and the live recording in Obras titled “Rabioso la Pesadilla Recién Start” that earned them a gold record, the band already had a weight and released “Ángeles Caídos” with interesting songs like “América” , "Libertad", "Chicos y Perros" that do not detach from their punk essence, but with details of other topics such as "Porque te Vas", "Lo que Quieras" and "Como Billy the Kid" experiencing less crude nuances in their music but with lyrics that recalled dreams, glory and power, dirty and clean aspects depending on the eye.
In 1993 "Todo Está al Revés" is a more rebellious album, even with its influences remaining as heard in "Yo Combatí la Ley", pointing to the power of the media in "Cuarto Poder", going from the peculiar detail of love narrated in “Stolen Flowers” those “Fifteen Seconds” of sexual desire, in addition to that “Nobody's Hero” marks the tendency to tell stories of not so brilliant characters, a situation that we will see repeated in the future.
Once again, far from crude themes of protest, in 1997 comes “A Perfect Day”, whose first song invites us to remember that only change is what remains in time, here the band openly tells us to experiment and continue playing different topics. In his style, “Rough” and “What are you going to do with me” are themes of acceptance of a relationship that ends, on the other hand, “Ángel” is a beautiful love letter, “Onírico” reaffirms that dreams are a source of inspiration that we should not miss, while "Pisces" reaffirms the changes on the earth plane and reminds us how important it is to make our feelings known, in addition to incorporating "Hero" in English version of "Nobody's Hero" with an accelerated rhythm and distorted guitars reaffirming their punk rock cut.
1998 is the year of "Other Songs" album that includes versions of his influences, it seems that Attack 77 you never believe in glory and hence pay tribute to various artists like Abba, Ramones, Jeanette, The Beach Boys, Soda Estereo, among others, starting with "Perfection", an ideal theme to point out society's ills, continuing with the youthful mischief of "Lily's Photos", betting on simple pleasures such as "Do you wanna dance?", telling a story with "Stray "And again the acceptance that there is no love in" A little bit of Respect ".
Already in 1999 with "Amen" Attack he again incorporates protest songs such as "Ya Sé", "April 2", "Santiago", "Fabrica", the trend of telling dog stories with "El Perro", the approach towards bullfights from “San Fermín”, not to mention the story of fall and salvation presented in “Tres Pájaros Negros”.
Closing the century in 2000 with "Radio Insomnia", which gives a classic protest with "Canción Inutil", again exposing evils around them with "Things that Happen", the loss of everything to become "Ciruja" or the invitation to empathy with the fate of "The Poor", the faces of love with "Iron Horse" and "Weakening", calling for respect and unity before "Our Happy Years" or giving a promise of more before the sea with "permanent vacations".
"Trapos" from 2001, would be a live recorded album, in a setlits that covers a wide part of its history and range of themes up to that moment, leaving those versions live as a reference for fans and reaffirming its weight as a band. While "Amateur" has both versions of some of the band's own songs, from other authors and even live.
For 2003 they present “Antihumano”, opening with “Echo Fuego” demonstrating that time does not diminish them and they have more stamina, another story where the good ones die with “Western”, talking about a boat accident followed by the attack by “Los Tiburones ”, Returning to the magic of simple tastes such as riding a bike exposed by“ Hey - Hey ”, criticizes reality shows that started in fashion at the beginning of the 21st century, and taking advantage of the fact that new generations are now listening to them doing a called to the "Seventh-century" spirit, "the bird sings until it dies" calls respect for the freedom of all being, the actualization of evil, telling that the devil was stripped of his authority by a mortal in the so-called "Neo Satan", without forgetting "Heartbreaker" as the simple loaded with feeling.
Karmagedon 2007 was the last album with Ciro Pertusi, begins with "Salvation Army", a premise that he always sang Attack: wanting to die living and not living dying, "Buenos Aires en Llamas" is the voice that will never stop protesting, "Cartonero" speaks of a worker who received the art of survival, without having to commit a crime, even if they have reasons to more than enough, inviting those who run the country to support their lives. "Juguete" motivates us to continue with virtues, brilliance and faith despite the circumstances, without leaving the fight to be free with "Karmagedón", the recognition of those heroes without capes who do good and are always there with their "Torch ”, Including“ Killing Dragons ”as the bittersweet theme of interpersonal relationships with fate.
