Finnish progressive and melodic metal pioneers Amorphis have unveiled their new single “Crowned in Crimson,” composed as the main theme for the film Son of Revenge, a cinematic project rooted in the mythological world of the Kalevala, Finland’s national epic poem.
The track dives deep into heroic tragedy and ancient storytelling, blending heavy riffs with somber melodies and an epic atmosphere that feels inseparable from Amorphis’ musical identity. “Crowned in Crimson” stands both as a standalone release and as a narrative-driven piece that enhances the emotional gravity of the film it accompanies.
Lyrically and thematically, the song explores vengeance, fate and sacrifice — core elements of Kalevala mythology and long-standing motifs within Amorphis’ body of work. Tomi Joutsen’s commanding vocal performance shifts between dark introspection and melodic intensity, while the instrumentation balances power and refinement with unmistakable precision.
This release further strengthens Amorphis’ deep connection to Finnish cultural heritage, a defining aspect of their artistic vision for decades. By contributing directly to a Kalevala-inspired film, the band expands their creative reach beyond traditional albums, once again proving their ability to transform ancient myth into modern metal with authenticity and depth.
