Anabanta It is undoubtedly a benchmark for Gothic rock in Mexico. Their long history has led them to position themselves strongly as a project that puts a stop to the music made in our country, with exciting themes about passion, darkness and death. Within the framework of its 22 anniversary celebration and days before a special show to be held to commemorate this event, we had the opportunity to talk with its singer Duan marie.
We know you have a very special show on the doorstep. Tell us a little about it.
Of course. In this concert that we will carry out on October 5th we are celebrating 22 years of career in a very special and beautiful place such as Indie Rocks Forum. It will be a different experience because we will have very special musical guests and we will also play the songs from our most recent EP. We have prepared to give a different concert, with a bonus that does not matter if you have seen the band before; You will be surprised and happy with something that special.
The show also sells a VIP experience, something that fans certainly value highly. What includes?
I do not want to tell you much about it because I do not want to ruin some surprises but I can tell you that we are going to quote a little earlier to the people who acquire their VIP pass because we are going to have a unique coexistence, with many surprises and crazy things that beforehand we want to thank the Indie Rocks Forum your support to carry them out. In addition to this, it also includes a preferential site to enjoy the presentation.
Tell us a little more about the special collaborations for this show
We are going to have great guests. We will have the medieval warriors of Berserker doing performance with us. Our friend will also accompany us Edea Najash who performs arabic dance in an incredible way. He has been working with us for 2 years and the truth is that his way of dancing is simply impressive. We will also have the presence of Manuel Percounts who is a storyteller that will give a fantastic atmosphere to our presentation. Already more focused on the strictly musical part we will have the presence of Viridian Renteria and Wedad Abdo who are great opera singers so imagine how that will sound. De León Guanajuato accompanies us Alberto Cortez to give a guttural touch to our songs. Finally also Anto akm from the band Mach Riders He will also be with us that day.
Maybe they will record this show for some later audio or video material?
Notice that we thought about it because of the special presentation, but in the end we decided that it was not the best time. We have already done streaming from other shows and as much as you concentrate and want to delegate, being aware of all the technical preparation distracts you. And for this show what we want is just to be psyched in the experience with and for our fans so all our energy will be put into it.
You have a long history in the rock scene since you were a child did you know you wanted to dedicate yourself to this? What would Duan have wanted to be if he had not dedicated his life to Anabanta?
It is the second time in all these 22 years that they ask me that and I will answer the same thing - laughs. I am passionate as you can not imagine automotive mechanics, everything that has to do with the parts of vehicles and especially motorcycles. But I must say that in fact from a very young age I found a taste for music and fortunately I was able to dedicate myself to it and I am very happy with what I do.
Anabantha is perhaps one of the most important gothic rock bands in Mexico, but your Which one or your influential bands, the ones that pushed and inspired you to dedicate yourself to music?
There were many. I am from Michoacán and I always had a great taste for vernacular music and for great artists like Lola Beltrán whose presence and way of singing fascinate me. I also had to live the 90s era with rock made in Mexico by artists like Caifanes but at the same time I was getting to know the most gothic side of the national scene with projects like The clan. Then came the influence of bands like Metallica or Nirvana and already in high school, which is where the project begins to become formal, I remember bands like Moonspell which were ultimately another great influence. That's how varied my musical tastes were - laughs. Little by little we were adopting aspects for our lyrics focused on feelings, death and also the spiritual.
Now that you mention the lyrical Anabanta's lyrics invoke feelings, but they also speak of the soul and beings beyond; of good and also of evil Do you profess as such a religion or what are your beliefs?
When we conceive of Anabanta we imagine her as such as a winged being, an angel. I really believe in this type of divine beings and I am a very believer in the energies and that there are beings beyond our understanding. I cannot tell you that I profess any religion because I do not agree with many of the restrictions that these impose, but I have the enormous belief that how you act in life is going well for you, so I could feel identified with Buddhism in that regard. I am a faithful witness of it in AnabantaWell, it has been a lifetime of effort and I can tell you that right now we are seeing the fruits of having done things well and with passion.
Anabanta will celebrate at the Indie Rocks Forum its 2.2 Anniversary Awakening Of An Angel this Saturday, October 5.
