Finnish band The Rasmus announced the release of their new studio album, ‘Weirdo, which you can listen to starting September 12th via Better Noise Music. The album is already available for pre-order in several editions, here.
The new single, "Break These Chains," featuring Niko Vilhelm of Blind Channel, is out now. The video is directed by Aleksei Kuliko.
“‘Break These Chains’ is about a toxic relationship,” says singer Lauri Ylönen, who wrote the song with producers Marti Frederiksen and Desmond Child. “It’s about letting go of something you know is hurting you, but you’re obsessed with it.”
Most of the songs on ‘Weirdo’ were written by Lauri Ylönen, Desmond Child (who collaborated on the band’s Black Roses and Rise albums and has worked with Bon Jovi, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, among many others), and Marti Fredriksen (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Veil Brides) in Folegandros, Greece. There, Lauri and Desmond met up to work on the material Lauri brought with them. The Ramus recorded full demos of all the tracks in Finland in July 2023, with production handled by Frederiksen and Child.
They then finalized the songs and recorded the album with the full band at Marti Fredriksen's Sienna Studios in Nashville.
“I'm comforted that our eleventh album, 'Weirdo,' has virtually the same message as our first album, released in 1996,” says Lauri. “It's about championing and praising those who stand out from the crowd and are proud to be themselves just the way they are. It's been our philosophy from the beginning.”
