Swedish band The Hives has released the official music video for their new single "Paint a Picture," another example of their signature energetic and visually bold style. Inspired by pop-art comic book aesthetics, the video portrays the band members within a Roy Lichtenstein-style animated world, blending saturated images, static action, and a visual rhythm that perfectly matches the dynamics of the track.
The video was directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder, who managed to capture a graphic narrative that combines humor, criticism, and visual satire, elements that have been an essential part of the band's identity. The song, meanwhile, offers a balance between the urgent riffs of garage rock and a more melodic chorus that stands out for its catchiness and ironic tone.
‘Paint a Picture’ is taken from their upcoming studio album, titled The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, which will be released on August 29, 2025. This will be the band’s seventh album, and represents a new phase after several years without full releases. The album will include 13 tracks and has been produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt and Mike D, as well as special collaborations that have not yet been fully revealed.
The single's release coincides with the promotion of their upcoming world tour, which kicks off in July and will tour venues in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia. With this new material, The Hives seek to maintain their place as one of the most explosive and visually stunning bands in contemporary rock, reaffirming their ability to reinvent themselves without losing their essence.
