“‘Aeterna’ is the song that opens the album, epic and great, accompanied by an incredible music video. Without a doubt, it reminds us of the characteristic sound of Epica and Ayreon, combining Latin lyrics with a touch of oriental sound. We sought to balance powerful, bombastic elements with more atmospheric moments. As it is the first song that the public will hear from this album, it is extremely important to us and we are eager for everyone to enjoy it!
The song brings the perspective of a star on the verge of going supernova, exploring the interconnectedness of everything in the universe, like a cosmic web woven by stardust. It addresses our deepest emotions, our consciousness, and other mysteries of life that science cannot yet fully explain. At its core, 'Aeterna' is a reflection of our place in the vast cosmos and the ties that bind us; after all, as Carl Sagan said, we are all 'made of star stuff.'"
After a successful career with Epica, which includes eight acclaimed albums and international tours, Simone has finally found the ideal moment to embark on a new challenge: her long-awaited solo album. “Vermillion”, the result of 15 years of dedication and artistic maturity, is a masterpiece that reflects the essence of this multifaceted artist.
The album dives deep into Simone's personal story, from her first steps in music to her consecration as one of the most powerful voices in metal. With influences ranging from progressive rock to film soundtracks, with electronic elements and, of course, metal at its finest, “Vermillion” is a testament to the versatility and unique talent of Simone.
When asked about the decision to launch her solo project at this time, the Dutch singer responds with a captivating smile: “Epica will always be my priority, and I have the freedom to explore other musical paths in parallel. However, I have never had the opportunity to dedicate myself to a solo project in such depth. Some ventures require patience and time to mature, and this is one of them.”
