June 1980. A month has passed since the singer's suicide Ian Curtis And Joy Division released what would become their most iconic song: 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'.
Originally recorded in January of that same year at Pennine Studios, the first version was not to the liking of Curtis, who decided to re-record it weeks later at Strawberry Studios in Stockport. In April, the band recorded the official video for the song, the only one in their career.
Upon its launch, 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' it became the first song of the band to become a hit, reaching the first places on the English charts of the time.
Four decades after its launch, 'Love Will Tears Us Apart' continues to be unequivocal evidence of the ingenuity of Curtis, who wrote it to be his will and witness of the suffering caused by his separation from his wife, Deborah Woodruff.
Deborah and Ian were married in 1975, when he was just 19 years old. Things came to an end when she filed for divorce after learning of Curtis' extramarital relationship with the Belgian journalist, Annik Honoré.
After his death, the song was forever engraved on his tombstone.
