Paris-based composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist James Kent — better known as PERTURBATOR — has released 'The Swimming Pool', the third single from his forthcoming album Age of Aquarius, set for release on October 10 via Nuclear Blast Records. Unlike the record’s overall aggressive tone, this piano-led instrumental offers a serene, dreamlike pause, reminiscent of the video game soundtracks that first brought Kent acclaim.
"'The Swimming Pool' is a moment of respite… simple, minimalist, and intimate," Kent says. "It’s inspired by a dream I had years ago, in which I found myself lost in a giant hotel, endlessly searching for a pool that didn’t exist."
The track follows 'Apocalypse Now' (featuring Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver) and 'The Art of War', outlining the emotional and thematic blueprint of Age of Aquarius, his sixth full-length album. This new record marks his most refined work to date, tackling themes of conflict, individualism, and war as intertwined social forces.
Mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano and featuring guest contributions from Alcest, Author & Punisher, and Greta Link, Age of Aquarius builds upon the shadowy foundation of Lustful Sacraments (2021), steering PERTURBATOR’s EBM-rooted style into cinematic and expressive realms. "I like to think of each album as a film," Kent explains. "Each track is a scene."
This fall, PERTURBATOR will embark on a headline tour across the UK and Europe, including a landmark show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and two nights at Paris’ iconic La Bataclan.
