One of metal's great multi-instrumentalists, Per Wiberg announced the release of his debut solo album, 'The Serpent's Here' which will be available at starting March 15 via Despotz Records.
In 2019, Wiberg released his solo debut, Head Without Eyes. A record of Nordic prog immersed in a stew of deep guitar notes and emotive melodies, Wiberg's debut uncovered an unexplored soundscape that surpassed the successes of his past and solidified his strong presence as a Unique solo artist in his own right.
OnThe Serpent's Here, Wiberg is joined by drummer Tor Sjödén (Viagra Boys), who played drums on the previous EP, as well as the bassist Mikael Tuominen (Kungens Män). The basic live tracks (drums, bass, grand piano) were recorded at Studio Gröndahl by David Castillo and as with previous releases, the album was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren at Blacklounge Studios.
“All the songs are built from song sketches that I showed Tor and Mikael,” explains Per Wiberg about the writing process for The Serpent's Here . “The idea was that they could improvise. All the basic tracks were recorded live in one afternoon to give it that extra spontaneous energy, and then I layered keyboards, guitars and vocals on top of what we recorded. In general, this time there are more guitars and two basses on most of the tracks”
