Green Day have just released the first teaser for New Years Rev, a coming-of-age road-trip comedy directed by Lee Kirk and inspired by the band’s early touring years. The film follows three friends who embark on a cross-country adventure believing they’ll open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve—only to discover it’s a prank.
The teaser captures a tone of youthful mischief, absurd obstacles, and '90s nostalgia. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shares that much of the story draws from real "van days": long drives, basement shows for ten people, and doing it all again because "music and mischief propel you forward."
The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, marking its official debut before reaching wider audiences. Green Day describe it as "packed with iconic songs, mischief, and familiar faces," and call it their cinematic love letter to nostalgia, road-trip movies, and chasing dreams no matter the odds.
Stars include Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, with appearances by Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Fred Armisen, McKenna Grace, and more. Green Day also serve as producers alongside Live Nation Productions, strengthening the film’s creative and musical legacy.
