After more than a decade without a studio album and seven years away from the stage, Neurosis has returned with a surprise release that marks a new chapter in their history. The Oakland band dropped An Undying Love For A Burning World on streaming platforms and confirmed upcoming live plans.
This release marks their first activity since 2019 and follows a major turning point: the departure of former frontman Scott Kelly in 2022 after publicly admitting to domestic abuse, which led the band to halt operations.
The revamped lineup now includes Aaron Turner of Isis on guitar and vocals, alongside Steve Von Till, Jason Roeder, Dave Edwardson, and Noah Landis. According to the band, Turner quickly became a key creative force, contributing ideas from the outset.
In a statement, Neurosis described the return as a response to emotional and societal pressures, including anxiety, isolation, and the climate crisis. The band reaffirmed their commitment to using music as a form of catharsis and survival.
Turner expressed deep admiration for the band, highlighting its lasting influence on his artistic journey and its dedication to creative integrity.
Neurosis also confirmed their return to the stage at Montana’s Fire In The Mountains Festival in July, where they will headline alongside YOB, Enslaved, Baroness, and Full of Hell. The festival collaborates with Firekeeper Alliance, focused on youth suicide prevention in Indigenous communities.
Steve Von Till emphasized the importance of the event as a space for healing, describing the power of heavy music to confront grief, trauma, and collective pain.
