Mike Patton recently addressed the current state of Faith No More, reinforcing the uncertainty that has surrounded the band since their last active period.
Reflecting on their final run of shows, Patton admitted: “I didn't really think so at the time, but, yeah, maybe.” He added that the band may have collectively felt it was the end without explicitly saying so: “And I think that we all kind of felt it, but it was unspoken.” He emphasized that he doesn’t see that as tragic, explaining: “I don't see it as a sad thing. I see it as being present and being able to really appreciate it while it's happening.”
Patton also rejected the concept of “side projects,” stating: “I'd never really understood… the concept of a side project, that's assuming that there's a main one.” He continued, “Everything that I've done was of equal importance to me. They just weren't viewed that way.”
Keyboardist Roddy Bottum has been more direct about the band’s status, saying: “It's not just me. I don't think anyone's sort of up for it at this point…” and concluding bluntly, “I just don't see it happening again, honestly.”
Drummer Mike Bordin recalled the 2021 cancellation, explaining: “We were ready, we were prepared… our guy doesn't show for the rehearsal.” He added that the band chose support over pressure: “We made the decision that, ‘Look, we've gotta support our guy.’” Bordin later stated: “I can't force him to do something that he… doesn't seem to wanna do.”
Bassist Billy Gould summarized the situation candidly: “I don't know. I honestly don't know… Right now we're in a really weird spot.”
Collectively, the statements suggest that Faith No More are not officially disbanded, but remain in what members have described as a semi-permanent hiatus.
