MERCILESS: Ruthless show at the Flying Circus

90

Swedes from Merciless They came to CDMX to put on a great show for old-school death-metal lovers eagerly awaiting the visit of a cult band from the underground scene.

The concert initially scheduled to take place in a smaller venue ended up taking place in the flying circus due to the closure of the previously chosen venue. The evening began with Trough Troment, a very common local band as a support in the death and black metal concerts of the scene, and followed by the death metal of The Zephir. Both proposals well received and applauded by attendees.

A banner with a bleak grim reaper in its shroud with the band's logo announces that Merciless going to take the stage. The intro to "Denied Birth" serves as a preamble for musicians to take their positions, and start immediately with the powerful sound of "The awakening" that starts screaming and cheering from the public. "The Awakening" from their first album and "Perrish" from the second, confirm that the band is willing to pay for their absence in these lands with an old school repertoire with the most select of their first works.

“We have been playing for more than 30 years together, and we have barely been able to come here, thank you very much for having us” say hello to the veteran Roger "Rogga" Petterson into the microphone as the little but long hair that adorns his head flaps to the beat of "Feebleminded", "Realm of the dark" and "Unearthly salvation". It is a pity that the change of venue has influenced the atmosphere of the event in people: Merciless It is a select and well-known band in a small circle of connoisseurs of death metal, ideal for a venue like the one that had first been announced and that would have been close to the sold out. In the circus that is much bigger and more spacious the mosh pit was too wide and that discouraged slamers from unleashing their madness, bored of running a lot and always colliding with the same guys in the open space. Still, a recognition to some fans who almost alone were still looking for someone to push and enjoy their show in the way that the Swedes deserved it, and that with songs like "Branded by sunlight" and "Dying world" they stood firm not to abandon your space for pushing.

"This is a theme from our fourth album and it is titled Cleansed by fire" announces Rogga to the microphone, in a ritual that was repeated many times in the show because the Swedish vocalist seems to like to remind us of the record number from which each song played follows. Guitarists rip their crushing riffs while the bass and drums are merciless machine guns throughout the show. One of the musicians wins over the public by giving away an official t-shirt of the band and earns everyone's cheers. In "Unbound" the catapults open and some fans are thrown towards the barricade in the increasingly rampant madness, until the peak moment of the night arrives: "Pure hate" is as its name indicates, pure hatred and without a doubt the most anticipated song of the night, and there if the mosh pit is filled with dozens of fans who only in this way dare to live the show as it should from the beginning, pure power without mercy!

Merciless he briefly retires from the stage but before the screams of the people he decides to return with one more theme, showing that they are eager to leave the best impression on his visit, and “Souls of the dead” is the song with which the Europeans lock the his successful presentation, in a show that any “trve” will rightly boast of having attended as a true connoisseur of the genre.

Merciless ofreció un show que cualquier “trve” presumirá con razón haber asistido como verdadero conocedor del género.
