Mastodon and Lamb of God release their new collaborative single ‘Floods of Triton’, an explosive and energetic song that evokes the spirit of both bands’ early work, while taking advantage of the stylistic breadth that has made them icons of heavy music.
The song comes at a perfect time, following the two bands’ joint arena tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their classic albums Leviathan and Ashes of the Wake, encapsulating the indelible influence of those records while also underscoring their relevance as key figures in the world of heavy music. The song was recorded at West End Sound, Mastodon’s Atlanta-based studio, and was produced by Mastodon alongside Tyler Bates, best known for his scores for Guardians of the Galaxy, John Wick, MaXXXine, among others.
This monumental collaboration also serves as the closeout to both bands’ highly successful collaborative summer tour, a celebration of two iconic albums that forged a path that countless metal bands have followed in the years since. Mastodon’s Leviathan and Lamb of God’s Ashes of the Wake not only marked critical turning points in each band’s career, but also left an indelible influence on the evolution of the genre. While “Floods of Triton” reflects the innovation and raw energy of these albums, it also showcases their ongoing hunger for creativity and evolution, marking the first step in Mastodon’s next chapter.
