Enslaved is without a doubt a legend within the Black metal and pioneers of the call Viking Metal. With almost three decades on the scene and as part of his return to our country with 3 dates next March, we were able to talk a little with Grutle Kjellson, bassist and singer of the Norwegian group.
What is the reason behind the relaunch of Hordanes Land that split jointly released with Emperor almost 25 years ago?
It was actually in great demand from our fans. We launched it in 1993 and the product ended up being a sold out. Many people sought to buy it but because of how expensive and difficult to get it was back then it was not enough. So we decided to relaunch it for all those people and new generations who did not have it in their hands in a new special edition.
How do you feel about this work being considered a pillar within the Viking Metal?
That work was our first release and I am very proud of it. In fact my first copy still remains hanging on my wall. I did it when I was very young and for me it is the most wonderful material I have made and not for the musical side, but for all the personal experiences around its creation.
About what you mention no, when we did we never conceived it as a material of such impact. I feel very grateful when I listen is considered this way, and that they tell me it has been a source of inspiration for many bands is a true compliment.
Your last full-length album was "E". Are you already working on your successor?
So is. We plan to finish the entire recording process later this year, and see the record finished and ready to be sold probably in the spring of the next year.
We know they will return to Mexico next year. What is your impression of the Mexican fans?
They are very energetic and crazy. We consider they are very dedicated fans to live music and it is what one as a band is always looking for. We are going to play 3 shows in the capital, Monterrey and Guadalajara and it will be great. We love those crazy people and we love to visit them whenever possible.
There is a lot of controversy with the documentary on the scene of the Black Metal "Lords Of Chaos". You as participants in the history of Black metal Norwegian What do you think about it? Have you already seen it or are you planning to see it?
Not! Definitely not. I saw the initial trailer and immediately realized I was stupid and awkward. I couldn't help but want to spit on him. It is a total shit that Hollywood does to want to tell a story that was not really like that at all. Pure shit for real.
We know that the name of the band is inspired by the name of a song by the band Immortal. Are you still fans of the band or do you think about the project now that Abbath is gone and about Abbath's project as a solo artist?
I am disappointed with my answer but the truth is that I have no idea what they are up to (laughs). We don't live in the same place and I honestly stopped following them long ago. I appreciate them and they are good guys but I am sorry to admit that I have not heard anything recent.
Any message for your fans in Mexico?
We are very happy to truly return. You guys are crazy and visiting them is always great. See you there soon.
Don't miss the next shows of Enslaved in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
